BOTOX® Cosmetic: A Big Hit With Millennials
Are you a millennial thinking, “When is the right time to start getting BOTOX?” This can be a confusing question and may generate a lot of opinions and even a little controversy (cue Aunt Mary saying, “You’re too young for that!”). There’s not really one right answer, but rather, you get to answer this question for yourself. Every face is different, and every person is different. More and more millennials are discovering the benefits of BOTOX® Cosmetic at our Tucson practice and across the U.S. Once considered only an anti-aging treatment, BOTOX is now seen by younger patients as a way to prevent wrinkles by starting treatments as early as their mid-20s.
With a new generation comes a new outlook on cosmetic procedures. In this blog post, we’ll look at the ways younger patients are using BOTOX and other injectable treatments such as dermal fillers to keep themselves looking and feeling their best.
The Millennial BOTOX Boom
It’s worth mentioning that one of the major reasons millennials are entering the BOTOX market is that they’re getting older. The oldest members of the generation are now reaching their mid to late 30s and are beginning to explore nonsurgical anti-aging options.
However, even the youngest members are now more open to cosmetic procedures in general. According to a RealSelf study, 51% of people aged 18 to 34 are considering a treatment within the next year, and 46% of those between ages 34 and 44 are also considering cosmetic treatments.
BOTOX manufacturer Allergan recently announced an upcoming marketing campaign asking millennials if they’re “bo-curious.” The tongue-in-cheek campaign is shining a light on the growing attitude that cosmetic procedure options are worth keeping an open mind about, and that it’s okay to be curious about how they may help you.
Why Millennials Love Injectables
BOTOX and dermal fillers produce affordable, efficient, and quick results. They don’t require major downtime or anesthesia, making them popular with busy young professionals. BOTOX, in particular, isn’t especially long-lasting, with results that stay visible for 3 to 4 months. This gives patients who are new to the cosmetic procedure world the chance to see if the treatment is right for them without having to commit to long-term changes. Dermal fillers are also temporary, with results lasting anywhere from 6 months to 2 years (depending on the product used.)
These treatments often serve as an introduction to the world of cosmetic improvements, enabling younger patients to get an idea of what to expect before they opt for more intensive procedures. While a patient may have a nose contouring issue corrected with filler on a temporary basis, he or she will likely end up choosing a surgical rhinoplasty for a long-term solution that doesn’t need to be regularly maintained. With short-term injectables available, younger patients no longer have to jump straight into surgery and can feel more prepared and familiar with the options available to them.
